Take Quality Photos

Julie Bullock asks:

How can you take good quality photos,  to where you can crop and edit them without the end product looking grainy?  I am trying to get good photos of my glass paintings. Then manipulate the image through a photo app.

Thank you for your help.

  1. Julie,

There are several factors that need to be considered when photographing photos that are going to be cropped. Pixels, ISO, and lighting. I would suggest shooting in the highest resolution that you can with the least compression. This allows you to crop with very little grain showing in the photo. Always shoot at the lowest ISO that conditions will allow. The lower the ISO, the more light can hit your sensor, hence a faster shutter speed and less chance of blurriness. Always light your subject with either artificial or natural light. This will enable you to shoot with a faster shutter speed.

Hopefully, when you throw all this together you will have a photo that you can work with!

    1. Thank you so much Michele. Those suggestions should bring me success. Right now I am at the mercy of only having my cell phone to take photos of my artwork, and they are done on glass (you know, to complicate things even more). I am in the market for a new phone, so I am looking for one that takes quality photos to be manipulated.
